The Effects of Certain Beverages Have on People with Gerd

Gerd is a disease where the stomach’s contents are allowed to enter back into the esophogus. These contents usually contain acids and bile and can hurt the esophogus which doesn’t have the protective lining that a stomach does. Certain drinks contain substances that can weaken the muscle between the stomach and esophagus.

Caffeine found in coffee and tea can also make symptoms of Gerd in people worst. Caffeine makes your stomach create more acid and bile which in effect can go up to your esophagus. Some people are able to handle one cup of coffee while others can’t drink any. It is up to you to judge whether you can handle some or not.

Any citrus drinks or tomato juice can also cause the same effect. These fruits are naturally acidic by nature and when it goes back to esophogus it can cause damage. You will want to avoid these drinks and go on a Gerd Diet.
